1. Emperor (also known as the clan leader and leader of the council): Background Roman history of the Emperor: "Roman Emperor" is the title historians use to refer to rulers of the Roman Empire , after the epoch conventionally named the Roman Republic . In ancient Rome there was no actual title of "Roman Emperor", and there was never a single office corresponding to it. Rather, the title "Roman Emperor" is a convenient shorthand for a complicated collection of offices and powers. Discussion of Roman Emperors involves a high degree of historian's editorial discretion, for the Romans themselves did not share the modern understanding of the monarchical concepts of "empire" and "emperor". The Roman Empire had kept all the political institutions and traditions of the Roman Republic, including the Senate and assemblies. In general, the Emperors cannot truly be described as "de jure" rulers (nominally the Emperor was merely primus inter pares), and many were not "de facto" rulers either (Emperors were frequently themselves figureheads for powerful bureaucrats, functionaries, women, and generals). |

OFP Emperor: In OFP the emperor is the clan leader and it is also the leader of the council of Generals. The Emperor is the individual who founded the OFP clan. The only way to become Emperor is if the existing Emperor leaves the clan. The Emperor has final say and veto authority on all issues no matter what the Generals agree to. As such, the Emperor is the authority to make final decisions when the Generals cannot come to an agreement on a particular issue. The Emperor and his Generals do not have authority on the way a server owner chooses to run his or her server. But the Emperor and his Generals must approve a particular server for the purpose of making that server an official OFP clan server. The Emperor is the only clan member who can kick another member out of the clan. In addition to wearing his clan tag, the Emperor wears the |E| tag to the right of his name. |

| General | ![]() |
2. General (also known as members of the council): Background Roman History for the rank of General: Each military campaign was assigned one general (dux), though there was not a single commander-in-chief until imperial times because a number of campaigns could be conducted simultaneously in different geographic areas. Generals were always aristocrats of the senatorial class, usually consuls or ex-consuls, since they had to hold at least praetorian rank in order to be granted imperium (the right to command an army) by the Senate; during the Empire, the emperor was the sole commander-in-chief, though he frequently delegated the actual command duties to generals who were his close associates, often relatives by birth or marriage. Generals and other officers wore Greek style armor over the military tunic—a molded leather breastplate that imitated the musculature of the chest and fringed strips of leather over the thighs and shoulders. Extant depictions of generals do not show generals wearing helmets, but they may of course have worn them in battle. The item of clothing that visually distinguished a general from all other officers was his purple cloak (this was a military style cloak, called a lacerna, that was fastened by a large brooch on one shoulder). |
OFP Generals: Generals in OFP are those who have shown tireless dedication to the clan. Generals are like the directors on the board of directors of a corporation. The clan Emperor is like the chairman of the board and CEO. To become a General one must have held an official clan job for a good period of time and must have performed well in that job. To become a General, the Emperor and all existing Generals must unanimously vote to have the member become a General. The Emperor and his Generals make all the final decisions about the clan. The Emperor and Generals ask clan members about their opinions of clan issues, but only the Emperor and his Generals can make the final decisions. The following are clan issues that only the Emperor and his Generals can make:

Praetorian Guard |
![]() |
3. The Praetorian Guard (senior members of the clan below council): Background Roman history about the Praetorian Guard: Since the time of Sulla, Roman legions were not allowed to be stationed in Rome or Italy, but in 27 BCE Augustus founded a new, elite organization, the praetorian guard, to serve as a permanent bodyguard for the emperor. There were originally 9 cohorts, 3 of whom were stationed in Rome with the rest in nearby towns. Under Tiberius, all 9 cohorts were garrisoned in one camp in Rome (the castra praetoria), and Caligula increased the number of cohorts to 12. The praetorians were under the command of two prefects (later only one) of equestrian rank and were divided into centuries in the usual manner. Service in the guard was easier and more prestigious than in the legions, and praetorians were paid 2-3 times more than the legionaries. Their armor was similar to the dress uniform of earlier Republican troops, with molded leather breastplates and helmets with visors and crests. |
OFP Praetorian Guards: In the OFP clan, being a Praetorian Guard means that you have been recognized as being a very active member of the clan who participates steadily on the servers, forum discussions, and significantly contribute to the life of the clan in an constant and active way. Being a member of the Praetorian Guard is a rank level that you can lose easily if your level of participation in the clan drops. To be considered for promotion to General, a member of the clan has to have been in the Praetorian Guard for a good period of time, and must have stayed at that level whithout flip-flopping back and forth between this level and a lower level, and the member must have shown an above average level of dedication to the clan. Generals normally recommend to the emperor if a member should be promoted to the Praetorian Guard. In addition to their clan tag, members of the Praetorian Guard wear the |P| tag to the right of their name. Members of the Praetorian Guard have regular admin priviledge on the clan server, and may have additional priviledges such as moderator priviledges on the forums. Members of the Praetorian guard have an offical clan job. |
| Legates | ![]() |
4.Legates and Military Tribunes(Lead admins below Praetorian Guards): Background Roman history about Legates: Generals commanded many legions, but each legion had its own commander (at least after the time of Augustus), called the legionary legate (legatus), who was also of senatorial rank. Under each legionary legate were six military tribunes (tribuni militares), who carried out administrative duties. Young upper-class Roman men used this position as a stepping-stone to a political career, so the tribunes often did not have much military experience or ability. |
OFP Legates: In the OFP clan, being a Legate means that you have been in the clan for a certain period (normally at least 6 months, but maybe more) and have proven your loyalty to the clan. You regularily particpate in clan activities, and have potential for earning a higher rank. To become a Legate, a member of the clan has to have been in the clan at the next lower rank for at least 6 months. Once a Legate, a member cannot return to the next lower level, but there are no guarantees that a Legate will ever become a member of the Praetorian Guard. In addition to their clan tag, Legates wear the |L| tag to the right of their name. Legates have regular admin priviledges on the clan server, and can assist a clan member who holds an official clan job. Members of the Praetorian Guard recommend to the Generals, Legates they think are capable of handling it, a promotion to the Guard. |

| Centurions | ![]() |
5. Centurions(general admins): Background Roman history for Centurions: Chief among the officers who were not of equestrian or senatorial rank were the centurions (centuriones), each of whom commanded an eighty-man century. The centurions were professional soldiers, responsible for maintaining discipline in their units and for supervising the fighting on the field. In other words, they were the officers who kept the army running (and fighting) smoothly. The armor of the centurions was similar to that of other officers, with the exception of their helmets, which were topped with a transverse crest that extended from side to side instead of front to back, the shin protectors ( greaves) they wore on their legs, and the vinewood staff they carried to discipline soldiers. Under each centurion was a standardbearer, a deputy (optio) who took command of the century if the centurion was killed or wounded, and the tesserarius, who was in charge of the sentries. |
OFP Centurions: Centurions are the most junior full members of OFP. A member becomes a centurion as soon as the member graduates from being an urban cohort (an urban cohort is the equivalent of being a recruit). Centurions have proven themselves worthy of full membership in the clan after undergoing the hardship of being an urban cohort. They have not yet established themselves in the clan, they are like apprentices. Being a centurion, is the period of time where a member tries to find where he or she belongs in the clan. As a centurion, the member's opinion is valuable in the clan, the member can vote on who can become new vigiles and urban cohorts. A centurion has minimum admin rights on the clan server and must prove himself a worthy admin before regular admin privileges are bestowed upon them. A centurion has access to the clan only forums. A centurion can make his/her mark in the clan by showing loyalty to the clan and by participating in clan activities. In addition to wearing the clan tag to the left of their name, Centurions wear the |C| tag to the right of their name. |

Urban Cohorts |
![]() |
6. The Urban Cohorts (recruits): Background Roman history for Urban Cohorts: When Augustus instituted the office of city prefect (praefectus urbi), he also established 3 cohorts (the cohortes urbanae) to constitute a sort of police force for the city of Rome. These troops were also stationed in the camp of the praetorians in Rome, though they served under the command of the city prefect, a man of senatorial rank. Outstanding service in the urban cohorts could lead to promotion into the more prestigious praetorian guard. |
OFP Urban Cohorts: Urban Cohorts are clan members on probation status. To become an Urban Cohort, a Vigiles must have at least 50 value added posts on our forums (spam posts don't count towards the total). The clan members must also vote the potential Urban Cohort in, and the clan XO must interview the potential Urban Cohort to see if he or she has adequate knowledge of the clan rules. In addition to wearing the clan tag to the left of their name, Urban Cohorts wear the |U| tag to the right of their name. In order to become an Urban Cohort, one first has to become a “Vigiles” (this was previously known as Friend of OFP) and show the clan that he/she is really interested to become a clan member. Urban Cohort become full members after they have accumulated enough points to show they are deserving of becoming a full member. Becoming an Urban Cohort does not guarantee that you will become a full member. When becoming an Urban Cohort, the Urban Cohort will start off with 10 points. For every good deed the Urban Cohort does which gets noticed by a full member, the full member will credit the Urban Cohort with points (the amount of points handed out for good deeds will depend on the importance of the deed, but no single good deed will result in more than 1 point when given by a Centurion, 2 points when given by a Legate, 3 points when given by a Praetorian Guard, and 5 points when given by a General or the Emperor). An Urban Cohort gets an automatic 10 points when submitting his/her roster picture to the clan Emperor. The clan will have contests now and then, the winners of the constests will be chosen by a General and when Urban Cohorts win they can get as much as 10 points for winning the contest. An Urban Cohort becomes eligible for full membership (starting as a Centurion) once he/she has a total of 75 points (unless he or she has a relative in the clan who is a full member, or if he or she was an original Friend of OFP, in which case the total number of points required is 50). At that point, the Emperor and his Generals will decide whether or not the Urban Cohort should become a full member. If the decision is in favour of the Urban Cohort, a ceremony will be held on the server whereby the Urban Cohort will pledge allegiance to the clan and will become a full member. During the Urban Cohort stage, an Urban Cohort can also loose points if he/she breaks any of the clan rules. If an Urban Cohort looses so many points that his/her total reaches 0 points, the Urban Cohort will no longer be a member and will revert back to being a “Vigiles”. Note: For the purpose of deceding the amount of points an Urban Cohort needs to graduate, a relative is defined as a brother, sister, mother, father, son, daughter. An original Friend of OFP is an individual who helped the clan leader manage the clan game server before the clan was formed. Those individuals helped keep the gaming environment stable while the clan was being put together and are owed a debt of gratitude |

| Vigiles | ![]() |
7. The Vigiles( used to be known as FOFP, no main role, but expected to keep order when in the server): Background Roman History for Vigiles: The vigiles, also founded by Augustus, served as fire fighters and night watchmen in the city of Rome. They were originally drawn from the ranks of freedmen and were not really soldiers, although they were organized on a quasi-military basis. The commander of the vigiles was a prefect of equestrian rank (the praefectus vigilum). They were divided into seven cohorts led by tribunes; each cohort was responsible for two of the 14 regions of the city. |
OFP Vigiles: Vigiles are what used to be known as the Friends of OFP (aka FOFP). Vigiles are individuals who have been regulars on our forums (to be a Vigiles one must have contributed at least 20 value added posts on the forums, spam posts don't count) and server and have shown interest in joining our great clan. Vigiles wear the =[OFP-V]= tag to the left of their name, or the =[OFP]= tag to the right of their name, which ever they prefer. Vigiles can participate with us in scrims (when doing so they wear the =[OFP]= tag the same way regular members wear their tag). Vigiles have access to private forums that are not available to the general public and can also join us on our ventrillo server. In order to become a Vigiles, an existing Vigiles, an Urban Cohort, or a full member of the OFP clan must send the individual an invite for that purpose. Upon receiving the invite, the individual must fill in a join form to request to join the clan. If the Emperor and his Generals decide a vigiles is worthy of becoming a member of OFP, the Vigiles will be made an Urban Cohort of the OFP clan. |
